Why You SHOULD Bake Your Own Wedding Cake

I hear you thinking,
“Who in their right mind would want to bake their own wedding cake?”
With so much to do already, so much wedding planning to do, you’re more likely thinking that baking your own cake is a terrible idea…am I right?
Well, let’s look at it this way:
1) If you are already inclined to do things yourself, baking your own cake is only natural
2) If you are already a somewhat experienced baker, than this would be a “piece of cake” (pardon the pun 
3) And of course, if you really enjoy baking and cake decoration, then why not give it a shot?
Here are four simple reasons why you should definitely consider baking your own wedding cake.
Reason # 1 – You Will Save Tons of Money
One of the biggest reasons: you will save a lot of money.
A wedding cake can range from hundreds to thousands of dollars, depending on how large it is, the design and what specifications you order. If you are getting married on a shoestring budget or even if you aren’t, it would be nice to save a few hundred dollars where you can. If you are already a passionate baker and you enjoy cake decorating, then why not save yourself a few hundred dollars and bake your wedding cake yourself?
Reason # 2 – You Get to Express Your Creative Side
Planning and creating your own wedding is the perfect way to express your creative site, and creating your own cake on top of that would be, well, like the “icing” on your own wedding creativity!
After all, who knows the couple better than you? You can design a very special wedding cake that reflects the two of you and your love and commitment. You can add all the small decorative and personal touches that a third party cake designer would simply not be able to add on their own. If you have a very specific idea on how you would like your wedding cake to look, then you will be able to put it together on your own exactly as you have envisioned.
Reason # 3 – Skip the Hassles of Ordering a Wedding Cake
Like finding the right dress and finding the right photographer, finding the right cake designer for your wedding cake can also be a prolonged hassle. Avoid the endless bridal expos and the endless wedding cake tasting and get it right the first time. If you and your significant other already have a good idea of what you’re looking for in a wedding cake and you think you can do it, then (again) why not do it yourself?
Reason # 4 – Endless Bragging Rights
Let’s say that you do design and decorate your own cake and it turns out to be a spectacular triumph. You will have many years of bragging rights about how you baked your own cake. As anyone knows, wedding cakes are often central to the wedding reception and the wedding celebration in general. Imagine creating your own edible symbol of union and love.
Baking your own wedding cake is not for everyone, but if you think you can pull it off than I say…give it a shot! If you are nervous or unsure, practise, take some classes and play with the design tools before you start.
If you are REALLY nervous…have a back up plan. Talk to your local baker and find out the “latest” order date should you need it.
Most of all, don’t be too hard on yourself. As they say, “it’s always more special when you’ve made it yourself.”
